Today is the first day for banks to accept applications for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), a vital part of the CARES Act. While some banks are holding back from full participation, the stimulus program is an essential step towards keeping small businesses alive. Send me your experiences with the PPP program to rob@simons.coach.
1. Build a Better Company During this Crisis
Many businesses have dramatically reduced their workforce, and some fortunate companies are still very busy. But many organizations find themselves somewhere in between. Michael Hopkins, CEO of Employer Flexible, said it best, “If you’ve ever wanted to push pause on your business and work on processes, this may be the time.” I’ve created a step-by-step article with strategies to engage your remote workforce to build a stronger company during these unusual times, “Actionable Strategies for a Remote Workforce Due to COVID-19.”
2. “Final” Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Application Released
The U.S. Department of Treasury has posted a “Final” version of the Borrower Application Form online. The Treasury Department has also provided an “Interim Final Rule” that is filling in the gaps with the most common questions. It’s a lengthy document with many clarifications about the program. If you’re still confused about the PPP program, see my article, “First Look at the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) in the CARES Stimulus Bill.”
3. The Best Way to Start the Day with a Remote Workforce
As I talk to more companies with a remote workforce, it is obvious that a Daily Huddle is an essential tool to start the day. It becomes a quick “check-in” at the beginning of the day. I’ve heard of some companies also doing a quick “check-out” at the end of the day, a signal to the team to leave their home office and be with their family. AlignToday.com is offering free access to the Daily Huddle portion of their tool. The majority of my clients use Align to manage their One-Page Strategic Plan. I highly recommend it.
If you haven’t implemented the Daily Huddle in your organization, or you want to refresh this important meeting, dig into this resource from Simons.Coach, “A Leader’s Guide to Implementing the Daily Huddle.” Also available is a PDF template, Daily Huddle Planning Tool, and an overview of the meeting to teach team members, “Daily Huddles: Keeping Teams Aligned in Real-Time.”

Stay safe.
